Florence Nightingale OM, RRC (1820-1910) was a celebrated English nurse, writer and statistician. An Anglican, Nightingale believed that God had called her to be a nurse. Idi Amin (1925-2003) was a military leader and President of Uganda from 1971 to 1979. Amin's rule was characterized by gross human rights abuse, political repression, ethnic persecution, extrajudicial killings, nepotism, corruption, and gross economic mismanagement. The number of people killed as a result of his regime is estimated by international observers and human rights groups to range from 100,000 to 500,000. During his years in power, Amin was backed by Libya's Muammar al-Gaddafi as well as the Soviet Union and East Germany.

A great trip saw us visit Roma, Pisa and Firenze over 5 days. Special thanks to the history students of the university in Pisa who met us to discuss a new linkage with the Cumann Staire and their particiaption in the Aistir international history conference.
