It's that time of year again, we will be going on our international trip. This year we will be going to Portugal, visiting the two largest cities in Portugal, Porto and Lisbon. Both have been listed in the top 10 places to visit in Europe for 2012.

Porto

The town that gave the country (and port wine) its very name, Porto is Portugal's second-largest metropolis after Lisbon. Sometimes called Oporto, it's an age-old city that has one foot firmly in the industrial present. The old town, centered at Ribeira, was built on the hills overlooking the Douro River, and today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 14th-century Sao Francisco church is a main attraction, as are the local port wine cellars, mostly located across the river at Vila Nova de Gaia.

Lisbon

Lisbon can be summed up in one word: variety. From the 12th-century Se cathedral to the modern bridges spanning the Tagus River, from the 18th-century Aguas Livres aqueduct to the futuristic Oriental Station, Lisbon traverses the ages. The city's many neighborhoods include Moorish Alfama, home of the city's tallest hill, and 17th-century Bairro Alto, with its hopping nightlife. Museums, castles, open-air markets, funiculars, Fado music - Lisbon's pleasures include these and much more.

An Cumann Staire once again visited to Belfast to sample the local culture and porter. A bus tour was taken and the local sites taken in. Local CS heros Michael McNally and Rab were also on hand to help the delegation from Galway to navigate Béal Féirste safely.
