Joe Regan joined Cumann Staire in the first year of his Arts undergraduate degree and became a general Coiste member following an active involvement in various CS events. Joe has become an integral part of An Cumann Staire. He was elected to the key promotional role of Oifigeach Chaidreamh Poiblí for the Coiste of 2009-2010 and also participated in trips both national and international. In 2010-11 Joe was elected to the crucial role of Secretary and in this role he organised a number of high profile events and guest lectures which covered a broad spectrum of historical topics. He also gave a paper at the IHSA conference in Cork relating to the American Civil War. Joe was unanimously chosen to become the Reachtaire for 2011-2012 at the end of year AGM. A very successful Arts Ball was overseen as well as the IHSA conference which was organised in Galway a long with the usual activities during his stewardship.
As well as studying history for his BA degree, Joe studied the combined subject of Sociology and Politics. Joe is a native of Contae Na Gaillimhe from the village Cill Rícill (kilreekill/kilrickle) and can speak Irish and English. He has a strong interest in Irish and American history, especially Irish slaveholders in the American South and Irish involvement in the American Civil War. Joe is currently doing PhD research following on from his undergraduate degree.
