Dónal is a long-time member of the CS. He completed his B.A. degree in 2010 in which he studied German and Irish. He spent 2010/11 in his home city of Corcaigh doing a Masters in Nua-Ghaeilge. Dónal spent his Erasmus year of in Germany and was elected as Ionadaí Gaeilge for the year 2009-10 upon his return. He remained an active member of CS while not in Galway, still attending many get-togethers in Galway, when studying in Cork. Dónal was re-elected to the committee as an OCM on his return to Galway and played a vital role in the organisation of the IHSA conference of 2012. At the 2012 AGM, Dónal was voted to serve as Reachtaire for 2012/2013. During his Auditorship, Dónal oversaw the various activities of the Society, including the inaugral History Month, a comprehensive series of events. He was Vice-Auditor in his last year of active involvement with the society.
Dónal Ó Catháin is from Cathair Chorcaí and speaks Irish, English and German. He also has knowledge of French, Latin and Ancient Greek. Dónal was also an indispensable member of An Cumann Craic and German Soc. during his B.A. degree. His research areas include medieval Irish history, the Irish abroad and he is currently working on his PhD about the Fitzgeralds of Desmond.
