Christina Folsom joined Cumann Staire while on her study abroad year, 2008-09, and became a general Coiste member following her active interest in assisting in the running of CS events. For the year 2009-10 Christina was selected to continue in the position of general Coiste member. Christina was elected as the Postgrad and IHSA rep. for the year 2010/11 and was returned as the incumbent of that position once again for the year 2011/12 at the spring AGM. As IHSA representative she will be helping to organize the upcoming IHSA annual conference in March 2012.
Christina is originally from the Great Boston area but considers Gaillimh home now. She began her undergraduate degree in history at the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida. After completing an academic year abroad at OÉ Gaillimh she decided Irish history was her passion and successfully transferred to finish her degree there. Her undergraduate dissertation for Single Honours History was on how the English laity’s experience of official church liturgy changed from the Sarum Missal to the 1552 Book of Common Prayer and was supervised by Prof. Steven Ellis. In the fall of 2010 she graduated with a BA in non-denominated history from OÉ Gaillimh. She is currently working on a Structured PhD under Dr. Mary N. Harris and Dr. Lilis Ó Laoire at OÉ Gaillimh. Her research will focus on aspects of the Irish Folklore Commission. Along side the PhD program Christina is also studying Irish under the diploma program at the same university.
