As a society, Cumann Staire encourages conference participation amongst her members. In 2011/12, It promises to be an interesting year as Cumann Staire are pencilled in to host the Annual IHSA Conference. There are also plans for members to participate in the ISHA events held throughout the year. Last Year we attended the annual IHSA conference in Cork, the annual ISHA conference in Pula, Croatia and some members attended conferences on behalf of Cumann Staire and recieved funding for this.

The Comhaltas na gCumann Staire / Irish History Students' Association was founded in 1950 and comprises student history societies from all over Ireland. The CCS/IHSA organises an annual conference which is organised in rotation by the country's third level institutions. This year's conference is being hosted on the banks of the river Corrib in NUI Galway.

The program will be very academic. Workshops of the ISHA seminar will cover issues like gender history, history used in political populism and history of migration and minorities. The focus is on how historical events shared by many can be seen in conflicting ways. In addition to workshops, program will include six keynote speeches given by the symposium participants. Non-academic program will contain guided tours around the City and a day trip to sites outside Turku. This year Turku is one of the two European Capitals of Culture sharing the title with Tallinn, Estonia. Cultural events and exhibitions form one part of the program. In addition to normal ISHA-parties, visitors will be shown a traditional way of feasting among finnish university students: sits. The official invitations will be send in late June. The application period opens in July. The Cumann Staire will be sending a delegation to the conference. All traveling will be expected to fully participate in the workshop groups.
