John Mac Cuinneagáin
2007-08 Ionadaí Íarchéime agus CCS postgrad and IHSA rep.
John Mac Cuinneagáin (Cunningham) joined the Cumann Staire in the first year of his Arts undergraduate
degree and was always a regular at our guest speaker talks given by well known historians from Ireland and abroad.
For the academic year 2007-08 he was elected Ionadaí Íarchéime agus CCS (Coiste
representative of post-graduate students and lead coordinator between the Cumann Staire and the Irish
History Students Association). As an IRCHSS Scholar undertaking a PhD thesis in history he was an
ideal choice in a busy year for his position on the Coiste. At the end of February 2008 the CS hosted
the CCS/IHSA annual conference and the Aistir 2008 conference over the one weekend. This
joint event involved over sixty speakers from around Europe, excursions and a variety of social and academic
events over several days. John's hard work as the lead organiser helped ensure a very successful event.
John is a native of An Iar Mhí and can speak Irish and English.
In 2009 he successfully completed his PhD thesis entitled 'The Transplantation To Connacht 1652-1675'
on the Cromwellian reconquest and colonisation of Ireland.
