Brianne Ní Shúilleabháin - Sullivan became a member of Cumann Staire when she started her PhD at NUIG in August of 2007. For the academic year 2008/09 she was the postgraduate representative and the CCS/IHSA representative for the society. Her main achievements for the Cumann Staire were organising the attendance of several members at the CCS - IHSA annual conference in Má Nuad, on the NUIM campus, and her role as lead orgainser of Aistir 2009. Aistir, as an international student history conference, required a large amount of effort and planning over a long period. Brianne successfully managed this complicated and stressful job while juggling her research and teaching responsibilites. As a result of her efforts Brianne was re-elected as Ionadaí Íarchéime agus CCS for 2009/10.

Brianne comes to us from the United States, where she studied in Boston for both her B.A. in History and M.A. in History. She is researching Death and Burial Customs in Rural Ireland, from 1850-1920, under the supervision of Dr. Niall Ó Ciosáin. She also taught history at the secondary level in the USA for six years before moving on to her PhD in Galway. In addition to researching under the supervison of Dr. Niall Ó Ciosáin, she also teaches tutorials for Dr. Enrico dal Lago and Professor Steven Ellis. She is an IRCHSS scholar. Her research interests include death and burial customs, 19th social history of Ireland, 20th century social history of Ireland, 19th social history of the U.S., and early American history. Brianne speaks English and Spanish. She also has elementary knowledge of French and Italian.
